Catholic Bishops Conference PNG & Solomon Islands - The Statement On West Papua

The Christmas festive season for Christians in West Papua is under scrutiny, and the message of peace that comes with it is swept away.

It has been 60 years since the Dutch colonial rulers left West Papua. The Christian message of hope and joy to the world that comes with Christmas also exited.

West Papua followed the Dutch colonial masters to pray and worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Salvation Message was accepted, and taken for granted.

Jesus Christ came to liberate individuals, and nations. West Papua's freedom was already defined by the Dutch presence in the colonial era.

It is well past time to be free.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of PNG and Solomon islands issued a statement on West Papua. It is the Christmas Message.

God's people in West Papua need peace to meet the bar of their faith in the Christian God.

We pray for West Papua. It is another Christmas under the rule of the sword.
